Marie Antoinette

This print showcases the magnificent floral embroidery of a dress made for a wedding ceremony in the mid-18th century. Why is this print called "Marie Antoinette" when the future Queen of France was only four years old when the dress with this embroidery was created? It's because little is known about Helen Slicher, for whom the luxurious dress with golden embroidery was made, while Marie Antoinette was known as a fashion influencer who popularized floral embroidery on dresses. Thus, it can be said that this floral embroidery was quite avant-garde for its time.

Today, Helen Slicher's dress is preserved in the Rijksmuseum. The dress was made in 1759, presumably in France, and the author is unknown.
